Life can be difficult, our thoughts and feelings can be overwhelming, this could be from current changes that you find unable to cope with, difficulty with relationships or more longer-term issues such as past trauma. Whatever you are struggling with, it does not have to be that way, the BACP member and registered therapists at Burton Counselling & Psychotherapy can help.
The terms counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably. Counselling typically involves shorter term, specific difficulties, or surface issues whereas psychotherapy often refers to more deep-rooted issues that may require longer term support. Both involve talking with a trained professional about your problems. This process relies on evidence-based models and theories that help you to understand the nature of your problems and enable you to make positive changes.
What can I expect from counselling and psychotherapy sessions?
Sessions can involve general discussions about how you are feeling, exercises to help you find solutions to your problems and learning skills and techniques to apply to your everyday life. Our therapists are able to tailor therapy to your individual or relationship needs.
How many sessions will I have/need and how often?
Following the initial clinical consultation, therapy sessions will commence on a weekly or fortnightly basis dependant on your needs. There are no limits on the number of sessions you can have with us, together we will re-evaluate your progress throughout the process.
What can I expect in the initial clinical consultation?
Our Initial clinical consultation is a structured 30-minute telephone appointment designed to understand your needs and help determine the most appropriate therapeutic support for you.
This consultation is carried out by a qualified therapist and provides dedicated time to explore your concerns, answer questions, and ensure that any onward work is suitable, ethical, and in your best interests.
What the consultation includes:
A focused discussion of your current concerns and goals
Consideration of the most appropriate therapeutic options
Space to ask questions about therapy and our approach
Clear guidance on possible next steps with no obligation to continue
Fee: £20
Why do we charge for the initial consultation?
Charging a fee allows us to offer each consultation the time, attention, and clinical care it requires. It also helps ensure that clients are ready to engage meaningfully in the therapeutic process.
There is no obligation to continue with therapy following the initial consultation.
Who is the initial consultation for?
The initial consultation is the professional first step for anyone considering counselling or psychotherapy and/or wanting professional guidance before committing to ongoing sessions.
Where will I have my counselling/psychotherapy sessions?
We can provide in person, online or telephone sessions. Our office is based in Burton on Trent.
